PT-141 (Bremelanotide) is a synthetic cyclic peptide and melanocortin receptor agonist derived from alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (α-MSH). It is studied for its interaction with melanocortin receptors, particularly MC4R, and their role in neurological pathways associated with sexual desire, arousal, and behavioral signaling.
Bremelanotide is also the active ingredient in the FDA-approved prescription medication Vyleesi®, specifically approved for certain premenopausal women with acquired, generalized hypoactive sexual desire disorder (HSDD).
